Fuzzy Blanket, I Love You!...and He Shoots, He Scores!

Thank goodness for Karin's fuzzy blue blankie. It has really helped her settle into daycare. She's been there twice now for 7 or more hours each time. Now we just need to convince her to eat her soup at lunch and take her naps and we'll be great. But at least she's not crying!

Chance is learning to skate. Cam is taking him most evenings out to the frozen pond near our house and they spend about an hour practicing. Chance can pick himself up now and manage to shoot a puck into a hockey net (he falls down after though). I am looking forward to watching him on the weekend, up to now I have been at home getting Karin ready for bed.

Also Chance will be in a Christmas play soon. He has lines and apparently has memorized them. He's kept all of this a secret -- so secret that we wouldn't have brought him to the play had his teacher not told me about it (he usually doesn't go on Fridays). When his teacher told me about the play she also gave me a last minute note that there was an Open House at the neighbourhood school for parents and kids who will be going to Kindergarten next year (that's us)!! Registration is January 15th!!!

Playground Drama

We have several parks in the neighbourhood. Chance has names for all of them to tell them apart: the tire swing park, the green park, the dog park, the car park and the merry-go-round park. His favorite being the latter, we frequent this park often. Last night we were out for a walk to said park and bumped into neighbour friends with kids and they decided to join us. They avoided the merry-go-round park (which their kids call the bouncy bridge park) because their smallest one took a spill off one of the playground structures last year. But she is a big girl now, so the merry-go-round/bouncy bridge park is open game now.
Anywhoo...there was a bigger girl there, about 7 or 8 years old, much to Chance's delight. He loves older kids. He is constantly trying to impress them. He had been in the merry-go-round for quite a while with the girl when a second older girl arrived, maybe 6 years old. This girl also wanted to impress the bigger girl and insisted they go faster and faster and faster and then have a contest to see whether anyone could still walk "properly". Meanwhile, Girl #2's dad and I struck up a conversation, he wanted to know how we liked the neighbourhood and whether they should move here. During this conversation, Girl #2 decided it was time to get off and check everyone's walking ability...only she wasn't feeling so good after all that spinning and tossed her cookies next to the see-saw. I felt bad for her, all I had in the stroller were kleenexes and gummi bears. She and her dad left after that.

Lost Time

I heard on the radio this AM that the average person spends 1 year of their life looking for lost items: keys, wallet, etc. I hope I find the following while packing up for our move into the new house.

* my Henkels kitchen shears. They went missing Easter Monday. I was babysitting the neighbour's kid and vaguely remember using them at the end of the day. ***UPDATE*** Found them on top of the china cabinet with my cake decorating stuff. I remember using them to snip off the end of a piping bag to fill deviled egs. Yay!

* our YMCA passes. Have been missing for 2 weeks now. Have checked every gym bag, jacket pocket, etc.

* my stainless steel water bottle ***UPDATE*** Found it at the babysitting room at the YMCA. Still no sign of the YMCA passes though.

* my 2nd pair of great gardening gloves....I bought a backup pair just in case I lost my first great pair of gardening gloves....but I liked my first pair better. ***UPDATE*** Found in the garage!! Woohoo! Now just need to find the Y passes!

* Wingo & DJ Chance's toy cars from the movie Cars. ***UPDATE*** Found. Don't ask me where Chance found them, he just did.

* Chance's 2 pairs of sunglasses ***UPDATE*** Found in toybox.

* Karin's hot pink hair bow ***UPDATE*** Chance found it under his bed while voluntarily cleaning his room. I picked him up and hugged him, I think he was a bit dazed.

* dayhome receipts & some other important papers...maybe I packed them????

Not bad, considering how long we've been parents...

So, for the first time ever, I washed a pamper today in the laundry. Except it wasn't just a pamper....it was a super high absorbancy 34 to 40 lb toddler size night time Pull Up. Stuffed into one leg of Lightning McQueen jammie pants. The thing was the size of an underinflated volleyball and weighed 3 lbs 5 oz (I'm sure this is not the application my mom had in mind when she gave me a food scale for my birthday). I was chatting on the phone with my friend Lynne, listening to her tell me about her newborn baby son, mechanically moving wet laundry into the dryer and the next thing that came out of my mouth was "oh frick!" as I hauled out an unusually hefty bundle of clothes oozing blue-tinged pamper goo. So on top of checking Chance's pockets for treasures before washing (kleenex, little cars, paperclips), I'll now have to make sure that his diapers END UP IN THE TRASH LIKE THEY BELONG.
